wans there was a Brenton

every year at the beginning of summer, i go and buy the kids each a summer workbook to keep their brains functioning. each day they have to do a sheet of homework. i have decided to share an example of what Brenton did the other day because it made me laugh and i thought i would give everyone a Friday laugh too. here is how it went down...

this is what his worksheet said...

homonyms. the following words sound and are spelled the same but have two different meanings. write two sentences using different meanings.

bat: 1 a wooden stick that is used to hit a ball

2 a small animal that flies at night

Brenton then wrote these two sentences...(wans means once)

1 Wans there was a wooden stick it was a vere sad stick

2 There wans was a bat it was a verey happy bat

spring: 1 the season of the year between winter and summer

2 to jump or bounce in the air

Brenton then wrote these two sentences...

1 Spring is a season

2 To jump you need a spring

i then had him do it over and tried to give him some examples of what he could write instead...he ended up USING MY EXAMPLES!! when that child has to do HOMEWORK of any kind he has NO FOCUS or IMAGINATION. it is like he doesn't want to put forth the effort of thinking or using his brain. i am so thankful that i have had him do a sheet of summer homework each day to keep his brain muscles working. i wonder how he is going to do this year in school (even kylee was telling him how to do some of his homework)...
